I — Character set

Selects code page and character set. The engine reads input as UTF-8, so the command is parsed but does not affect drawing.

Engine status: Parsed, not rendered

The engine recognises the command and skips it: it is a DEVICE setting and does not change the image on the media. Your label still parses cleanly.
