Fills a recalled form's variables and counters, in order, from the lines after ? (EPL PG p. 172). Without form memory the preview reads those lines as commands and reports 'unknown command' — expected.

Engine status: Parsed, not rendered

The engine recognises the command and skips it: it is a DEVICE setting and does not change the image on the media. Your label still parses cleanly.
