V — Define variable

Defines a prompt field inside a stored form; numbered in order, placed right after FS (EPL PG p. 164). Its value arrives at recall via ?; a preview without form memory cannot know it.

Engine status: Parsed, not rendered

The engine recognises the command and skips it: it is a DEVICE setting and does not change the image on the media. Your label still parses cleanly.

Syntax

V<nn>,<len>,<L|R|C|N>,<"PROMPT">
