Printer Language Detector

Paste raw label printer code below. The detector uses structural signatures — not guesswork — to tell whether it is ZPL, EPL, TSPL or CPCL, and shows you exactly which signals it matched.

Matched signals

Input up to 1 MB. The code is analyzed in memory and is not stored. Confidence is shown as high / medium / low — not a percentage, because no real probability is computed.

How to identify a printer language

    1. Paste the raw code your system sends to the printer — from a spool file, an integration log or a legacy application.
    2. Press Detect. The analysis runs on structural signatures: ZPL's ^XA…^XZ block, EPL's line-oriented A/B/P commands, TSPL's SIZE/GAP keywords, CPCL's session header.
    3. Read the matched signals: the tool tells you why it decided, with line numbers.
    4. If the language is ZPL, open the code directly in the ZPL viewer to see the rendered label.

When this is the right tool

Use it when you inherit label files from an old system, receive templates from a supplier, or capture what an application sends to a thermal printer and need to know which language it speaks before choosing a viewer, a printer or a migration path. Zebra printers speak ZPL (older models EPL), TSC printers speak TSPL, and mobile Zebra/Intermec printers often speak CPCL.

    Frequently asked questions

    • Why is there no percentage? — Because none is computed. The detector adds up structural signal scores; turning that into a percentage would claim a precision it does not have. You get high, medium or low, plus the signal list to judge for yourself.
    • What does Unknown mean? — The input matched none of the four languages' signatures. It may be plain text, a different printer language (SBPL, DPL, IPL…), or binary data.
    • Can it be wrong? — Yes: short snippets carry few signals, and TSPL and CPCL share keywords. That is exactly why the confidence level and the matched signals are shown instead of a bare verdict.
