| Model | Documented mode | Vendor source |
|---|---|---|
| DL-210 203 dpi · 108 mm · USB | ZPL EMULATION, and the VENDOR states it on its own 'Emulation' row (data sheet: 'Standard emulation EPL, ZPL II, TSC'; user manual technical table: 'Emulation: Zebra, EPSON / ZPL, EPL, TSC'). TWO DIFFERENCES set this record apart: (1) **emulation is NOT off, it is the FACTORY DEFAULT** — the manual's settings table lists 'Emulation: ZPL, EPL, TSPL' with default 'ZPL'; the configuration label also prints 'Emulation....ZPLII'. On NOVEXX and Printronix emulation was a mode that had to be TURNED ON first; here it ships on. (2) **THERE IS A COVERAGE LIST** — section 8.1 'ZPL Command Sets' of the manual lists the supported commands ONE BY ONE (measured: 187 commands, from `^A` to `~WQ`). Wasp and NOVEXX had NO such list; this is the first record that can answer 'which command' with the vendor's own document | Source 2026-09-18 |

These are Desktop units from the DL family, printing at 203/300 dpi with a 104/108 mm print width, reachable over USB. The interface is part of the answer: an emulation mode is selected on the device or by a prefix in the stream, so how you reach the printer decides how you switch it.
DASCOM ships these at 203/300 dpi, so the same ZPL coordinates land at different physical sizes depending on which unit you got — check that before you blame the emulation for a layout that came out wrong.
The DASCOM claims here rest on the vendor's user manual, the vendor's spec sheet. Source type is part of the evidence: a manual ships and is versioned with the product, while a support article can change without notice.
ZPL is documented as a native language on printers from Zebra. If the hardware is still your choice, that removes the emulation question entirely.
Will my existing ZPL labels print unchanged on a DASCOM printer?
Not necessarily. DASCOM's mode covers the subset of ZPL that DASCOM chose, so fonts, barcode types and graphics are the usual places where output differs. Send one real label to the device and compare before you migrate a fleet.
