Some GS1 Application Identifiers have a fixed number of digits: 00 needs 18, 01 and 02 need 14, the date AIs 11 to 17 need 6 (YYMMDD), 20 needs 2 and 410 to 415 need 13. A value with fewer or more characters, or with non-digits, shifts every AI after it, so the scanner splits the data in the wrong places.
